Earlier this month, my best friend and I escaped the city for a lovely weekend at a meditation & yoga wellness retreat. Being our first wellness retreat ever, we were a little unsure of what to expect but excited nonetheless. Nectar Yoga is purely magical, and something everyone should experience. From the moment we arrived we instantly felt more relaxed, calm & excited for the weekend ahead.
We were instantly greeted by co-owner Andrea’s mother who was so lovely and excited to welcome us to their space. She gave us a wonderful tour of our home for the next two days, which has been thoughtfully designed complete with Scandinavian inspired cottages, a-frame cabins, a main lodge and of course the yoga dome. All of this is quietly placed along the beautiful property which is a true nature lovers escape.
For anyone wanting to experience their first wellness retreat or looking to experience one closer to home, I cannot recommend Nectar Yoga enough. Since returning, this retreat has been on my mind, and both myself and my friend cannot wait to return.
Keep reading for everything you need to know about Nectar Yoga & more about this wonderful 2 day retreat that is sure to inspire you to nurture appreciation & gratitude, while working on your practice in a stunning environment.
How to Get to Bowen Island
Getting to Bowen Island from Vancouver is super easy. A quick 30 minute drive out of the city will have you in Horseshoe Bay. From here you will catch a quick 20 minute ferry.
Even though it is so close to the city, you instantly feel like you have gone somewhere very far away. The minute you get off the ferry, things will slow down quite a bit truly providing a small town feel. With one main road, you can already feel that life here moves a little different than in the big city.
Directions from Vancouver: Head North towards Whistler & follow the signs for the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. When you arrive, take the lane to Bowen Island. Upon arriving, stay on the main road for about 10 minutes, before arriving at Nectar Yoga which is located at 720 Gardner Ln, Bowen Island, BC, Canada V0N 1G2.
The ferry only charges you one way, and it is about $50.00 for a car and two guests.
Nectar Yoga offers a couple of different lodging options from the cute A-Frame Cabins to the larger Cottages. Each accommodation ranges in hosting 1-3 people, we opted to stay in one of the A-Frame cabins.
We lucked out that there was a last minute cancellation which provided us with our own cabin each! A special birthday surprise from co-owner Andrea!
Each space is thoughtfully designed with relaxation in mind, complete with everything you need to disconnect & truly be present. The cottages even come with outdoor showers and reading nooks to elevate your stay.
A two day wellness retreat starts at $387/per person which includes:
- Two nights accommodation
- Three guided meditation, and yoga classes
- Two delicious vegetarian breakfasts
Your stay will include 3 yoga + meditation practices led by Andrea, or one of the other fabulous teachers. Upon arrival, we enjoyed an evening yoga class followed by guided relaxation/mediation to complete the practice. This was the perfect introduction to our weekend, and really helped me relax both my mind and body. Practices which I took with me throughout the rest of the weekend.
The next day, we followed the same routine, which included the same practices as the day before. Cat Quinn lead us through a peaceful morning meditation followed by another focused yoga class.
From here, the group meets at the lodge for a nourishing vegetarian breakfast. We were super lucky that fall had just started, as a result it was still warm enough to enjoy our breakfast outdoors.
And for our final day, we did a beautiful walking meditation to enjoy the property, followed by a restorative yoga class in the dome. From here, we were served another delicious breakfast before checking out from our weekend of wellness.
Andrea & the team really put a lot of thought and effort into every detail including the delicious breakfast menu! I am still dreaming of the food we were so graciously provided!
Inside the lodge is absolutely stunning, with a floor to ceiling window to take in the lovely forest views. We definitely spent time in here taking in the view, the calmness and of course the complimentary tea!
The Nectar schedule is very inclusive of all reasons for visiting, allowing a lot of free time to enjoy your surroundings. With afternoons free, you may hopefully see some deer grazing the grounds or spend your days exploring beautiful Bowen Island.
Additional options include adding afternoon yoga classes, having your cards read with a tarot card reader, or indulging in a relaxation massage. With additional extra services, you can tailor your wellness retreat to your specific needs.
All of these additional services can be added during the booking process, I would recommend pre-booking so you don’t miss out!
We didn’t pre-book anything this time as we were focusing more on the meditation. Therefore, we took the opportunity to explore the surrounding area of the island.
Our days were filled with hikes, walks around the lake and visiting all of the local spots in town. I would suggest checking out the below if you’re looking for some good coffee, snacks and meals during your stay:
- The Snug Cafe for coffee, breakfast or a quick lunch
- Tell Your Friends Cafe for coffee, brunch on the pier
- Branch on Bowen for tacos, and Earnest Ice Cream!
- Rustique Bistro French cuisine perfect for a larger lunch or dinner!
- Bowen Island Pub great spot for lunch, with typical pub fare & a wonderful patio
- Barcelona Wine & Tapas bar unfortunately it was closed when we went but I am always down for a charcuterie & cheese board with a glass of wine!
- Tuscany Restaurant a lovely Italian restaurant with a gorgeous courtyard. They also serve pizza to go if you prefer to take some food back to Nectar & enjoy!
Nectar At Home
I cannot recommend a visit to Nectar Yoga enough, the entire experience was a 10/10 & as mentioned before we cannot wait to return. Andrea had just released a 21 day at home meditation course, which I instantly signed up for.
One of the best parts of my stay was the meditations with Andrea, as I found her voice so calming. You can see & feel the heart and passion she has for this craft & helping others realize this as well. I knew the meditation at home would be just as impactful & has been so helpful for me to continue growing and perfecting my meditation.
Wellness Retreat Conclusion
In conclusion, if you have ever been curious about what a retreat entails, then Nectar Yoga is the perfect place to start your journey. Andrea mentioned that a lot of first time visitors tend to be returning guests, and it’s not hard to see why.
